A Study on Antibiotics Susceptibility of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Nature and Clinical Materials

Abstract
To detect the pseudomonas aeruginosa in our environment, the author collected sample water from 5 public bath and 4 spots of river in Seoul twice a month from January 1970 to October and carried out the isolation procedure.
The susceptibility of those microorganism to various antibiotics was tested by cup and disk methods in comparison with clinical strains. This study was completed by another mouse inoculation test to compare the virulance of both environmental and clinical strains.
This study revealed the followings;
1. P.aeruginosa could be isolated in all water samples obtained from public bath home and river.
2. P.aeruginosa isolated from bath, river and clinical specimen was found to be most susceptible to Lymecycline and polymyxinB in the cup method.
3. Only 3 per cent of those organisms were resistant to polymyxin B (300units0 AND 40% had resistancy to streptomycin (10mcg) in the disk.
4. The 72-hour survival rate of 40 mice inoculated with 0.5ml of 2 ¡¿10?/ml P.aeruginosa were 50-70% for the specimen isolated from environment and 30-50% for the specimen from clinics.
